2025 LiUNA 150 Race Picks

Date/Time: Saturday June 28th, 2025. 1:00PM (EST)
Where: Lime Rock Park
TV: FS1

On Saturday, NASCAR will host a rare double header between the Craftsman Truck Series and Cup Series despite the fact both series will be racing at completely different venues. While the Cup Series prepares for superspeedway style racing in Atlanta, Georgia, the Craftsman Truck Series will kick off the afternoon with road course racing at Lime Rock Park in Salisbury, Connecticut. Needless to say, there will be plenty of betting opportunities throughout both events and we turn our focus to Saturday’s LiUNA 150 in an attempt to cash some road course wagers!

Keep in mind, the Truck Series did not compete at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year for the first time since NASCAR’s touring series started visiting COTA back in 2021. As a result, this Saturday’s race at Lime Rock Park will be the first road course event of the season and the first road course race for the series since March of 2024. As a result, we have not exactly had many road course races in the Truck Series recently which can be used as a strong handicapping baseline. Therefore, perhaps we approach this event with some caution unless we can identify some strong value that warrants the elevated risk!

Luckily, the Craftsman Truck Series had the opportunity to participate in a full hour practice session earlier this afternoon. Considering there are many drivers in the Truck Series with very limited road course experience, today’s practice results will be a heavier handicapping asset than normal to identify the drivers/teams that have best prepared for this 1.53 mile layout. Obviously, practice results do not mean everything and there will be some drivers/teams that progress on Saturday. To better understand who is most likely to march forward on Saturday, we will have to dig deep into the drivers that have outside road course experience that may not be found in traditional analytics.

Lime Rock Park

Since most race fans are not familiar with Lime Rock Park, I thought it would be important to discuss what everyone should expect on Saturday. For starters, I would point out that Lime Rock Park is not necessarily a “difficult” road course from a layout perspective. The entire course has just 7 turns and only one left handed turn throughout the entire lap. The most difficult challenges that Lime Rock Park presents are the elevation changes and braking zones which must be attacked differently at opposite ends of the course. As a result, drivers must be very technical to avoid mistakes and also must be really good at managing tires which will be very important throughout the event.

Betting Targets

In practice on Friday, Corey Heim once again emerged as the driver to beat which has basically become a weekly occurrence. For anyone that thought Heim would not be a threat at a road course event, let’s not forget that Heim has already captured a win at COTA which is one of the most difficult road courses on the planet. On Friday, Heim led the way with the best 5 lap consecutive average and appeared to be relatively head and shoulders above the field. The only other driver that had similar lap times was Brent Crews in the #1 truck for TRICON Garage. Crews is not a full-time competitor but is among the threats on Saturday’s entry list that has a very impressive resume on road course layouts. Crews has competed in many different disciplines which includes impressive results in the Trans-Am Series which is strictly road course racing.

For those reasons, I believe Crews has the ability to compete at the front of the field on Saturday and perhaps contend for a victory making him playable in all formats. Behind the top duo, it becomes a bigger guessing game. However, I believe Layne Riggs and Ty Majeski are primed to run well because these turns at Lime Rock Park mimic short track corners. Riggs and Majeski are the best short track talents in the field which boost their stock for Saturday. Deeper into the field, Kaden Honeycutt, Andres Perez De Lara, and Rajah Caruth are among the drivers that I have pegged that should shatter their suggested ceilings. Caruth was really solid in practice but is getting a huge betting number. As a result, I believe Caruth is a prime target in prop bet formats!
