2026 OnlyBulls Green Flag 150 Betting Race Picks
Date/Time: Saturday February 28th, 2026. 12:00PM (EST)Where: St. Petersburg Street Course
TV: FS1
While the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Cup Series will be at Circuit of the Americas this weekend, the Craftsman Truck Series will have the luxury of participating in the first NASCAR sanctioned event at the St. Petersburg Street Course in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Craftsman Truck Series will join the NTT IndyCar Series who have competed on the St. Petersburg Street Course regularly since 2005. For the Truck Series, the OnlyBulls Green Flag 150 will officially be the first race in series history for the Truck Series on a street course.
From a betting and handicapping perspective, this is one of those rare races where we do not have any previous history to guide us in our selections. What we do know is that the St. Petersburg Street Course is a 1.8 mile layout that features 14 high-speed corners that will navigate through the streets of downtown St. Petersburg. Unlike some of the road course venues where the Truck Series has competed recently, this street course features a lot of sections of the course where speed will be a factor. In reality, St. Petersburg is unlike any other “road course” that is comparable at the NASCAR level. I think you could draw some comparisons to Circuit of the Americas without the elevation changes but that would be really stretching that comparison.
As a result, we will have to be very careful how we approach this race from a betting perspective. I think bettors will learn a lot late Friday afternoon when the Truck Series hosts practice and qualifying sessions in preparation for tomorrow’s green flag. During those sessions, we will likely learn who has found the most speed from sim-work and has transitioned that into real-life speed. While those practice observations may be significant towards helping us prepare for this race, I did want to get this preview out early because there are a couple of betting lines that I believe are worthy of immediate consideration. This preview will be updated as we progress throughout the weekend.
Early Notes
If we look at Truck Series performances from the road courses last year which consisted of races at Lime Rock Park, Watkins Glen, and the ROVAL, I think we could make a clear argument that Ty Majeski, Layne Riggs, and Gio Ruggiero were among the most consistent front-runners among the Truck Series regulars. With that being said, Lime Rock Park and the ROVAL are the least comparable tracks to St. Petersburg but are noteworthy due to the “style” of racing that those venues produce. Personally, I believe Ruggiero may be the most underrated road course talent in the entire field. Ruggiero has produced great results at this style of racing and is one of the most undervalued drivers based on current betting odds. For that reason, I wanted to get out a few plays that had exposure to Ruggiero in both futures and H2H formats!
Note: It would be foolish to fail to mention that IndyCar legend Dario Franchitti will be making his first career Truck Series start this weekend. The 3-time Indy 500 Champion and 4-time IndyCar series champion is an incredible talent at this style of racing, has plenty of experience at St. Petersburg, and will be behind the wheel of a fast #1 truck with TRICON Garage. With that said, I am eagerly watching to see how well Franchitti adapts in his first Truck Series’ start and will be watching his speed during practice very closely before making any bold predictions. Other notable drivers making rare starts from open wheel competition include James Hinchcliffe and Adam Andretti.
Practice Observations and Final Thoughts
Update: I was hoping that practice on Friday would have given us some better insight into today’s race and how it could potentially unfold. Unfortunately, rain cancelled practice after just a few minutes of on-track activity. The majority of trucks were able to make about 6-7 circuits on the track. With such a limited session, I don’t have a high confidence towards the top drivers going into today’s race. Kaden Honeycutt posted the fastest lap in practice by a relatively wide margin. For that reason alone, I have Honeycutt high on my list. It’s just really hard to say if everyone was truly giving it 100% from behind the driver seat with just so few laps of practice. For those reasons, today’s betting card will be very conservative.
