NASCAR Penalizes Kyle Busch Motorsports

Earlier today, NASCAR announced that Kyle Busch Motorsports would be penalized after failing post race inspections after Busch won the UNOH 225 this past weekend at Kentucky Speedway. Busch previously won the pole for Thursday’s UNOH 225 and then dominated the event by leading 91 of 150 laps to win his 40th Camping World Truck Series race. However, Busch’s #51 Toyota failed post race inspections as the Truck was found to be too low and did not meet ride height requirements. Today NASCAR announced that Kyle Busch Motorsports would be docked 6 points in the Team Owners Championship standings. Additionally, crew chief Eric Phillips was fined $5,000 for the P2 level infraction stemming from section 20B-12.8.1 of the rulebook which states Trucks must pass post race height requirements.

The penalty itself is nothing severe but it does slim the lead that Busch held in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Owner Standings. Before the penalty was announced, Busch held a 17 point advantage over Mike Curb who owns the #98 Truck of Johnny Sauter. Going forward, Kyle Busch Motorsports will have to make sure they avoid any similar penalties. Any similar issues in the near future could spawn a stiffer penalty from NASCAR which would really hurt Busch in the series owner standings and perhaps the entire #51 team as well. So far this year, Busch has won all 5 Camping World Truck Series events in which he has entered. The Camping World Truck Series is off this week but will return to action on July 11th at Iowa Speedway.
