All-Star Week Preview

All-Star week has returned to the home of NASCAR in Charlotte, North Carolina. This Saturday night the top drivers in the sport will take part in a no holds barred non-points race with a million dollar prize up for grabs. As always with a non-points race, nothing matters except winning and that is why the All-Star Race usually puts on one hell of a show.

However this weekend’s All-Star Race festivities will be a little different than in previous years. The Sprint Showdown, which consist of the non-eligible All-Star drivers, will be ran on Friday night. Previously the Sprint Showdown was held right before the All-Star race. The top 2 finishing cars of the Sprint Showdown that earned their ticket to the All-Star Race would immediately be rolled onto the starting grid with the remaining All-Star cast. Instead, this weekend the Sprint Showdown will take place on Friday night before the Camping World Series Truck Race.

The move of the Sprint Showdown to Friday night with the CWTS event was done to ensure Charlotte Motor Speedway produced an action packed weekend. Qualifying for the All-Star Race has been moved to Saturday before the All-Star Race to ensure plenty of racing action is available for fans. The qualifying for the All-Star Race is very unique with drivers having to make 3 laps including a mandatory 4 tire pit stop. Therefore not only is having a fast car important but it puts pressure on the pit crews to perform as well. Therefore there will be plenty of entertainment throughout the weekend and it will all be capped off by the thrilling All-Star Race late Saturday night.

All-Star Race Weekend Schedule:
