2026 NC Education Lottery 250 Betting Race Picks

Earlier today, the Craftsman Truck Series delivered an exciting battle in the final laps of the Black’s Tire 200 at Rockingham Speedway to kick off the racing weekend. In the end, Corey Heim emerged with his 2nd straight victory after out dueling Kaden Honeycutt on the final lap. On Saturday, the action continues at Rockingham Speedway as the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series takes center stage for the running of the NC Education Lottery 250. In tomorrow’s weekend finale at Rockingham, all eyes will be on points leader Justin Allgaier who is trying to win his 3rd consecutive race of the season!

As I stated in yesterday’s Truck Series preview, handicapping tomorrow’s NC Education Lottery 250 is relatively difficult because this will only be the 2nd race at Rockingham since 2004. The track was actually abandoned and vacated for several years but recent efforts to restore the historic speedway have brought racing back to one of North Carolina’s oldest venues. With that being said, there is simply not a lot of historical data that bettors can analyze to determine the drivers that perform well at this specific venue. For that reason, we will have to explore numerous handicapping angles as we attempt to understand how tomorrow’s race will unfold.

Unlike the Truck Series race, the good news is that we have already had a chance to observe on-track activities this weekend which should give us better insight into the drivers/teams that have unloaded with fast cars. Following today’s sessions, Corey Day emerged with the first pole of his career following a fast lap of 148.963mph. Ironically, Day has been on our betting card in each of the last two weeks because I have noticed that he is starting to show a lot of speed. Day led 37 laps in last week’s race at Martinsville which resulted in a best career runner-up finish. Today, Day proved that the recent momentum is no fluke and appears to be among the fastest cars yet again!

Practice Observations

Before Day topped the charts in qualifying, the Sieg brothers topped the charts during today’s lone practice session. Kyle Sieg posted the fastest lap of the session with a speed of 145.812mph and brother Ryan Sieg posted the 2nd fastest speed at 145.787mph. However, it is worth noting that both of those laps were mock qualifying runs which were posted in the final moments of practice. In terms of overall observations from practice, Austin Hill had one of the better practice sessions that the #21 car has produced in several weeks. Hill posted the best 5, 10, and 25 lap consecutive averages which is somewhat surprising considering Hill struggled in last year’s return to Rockingham. Nevertheless, the #21 car appears to be trending in a much better direction this time around.

Among other noteworthy observations included the fact that all of the JR Motorsports drivers showed strong speed. Obviously, Allgaier has been red-hot in recent weeks and is going for his 3rd consecutive win. Sammy Smith is the defending winner of the NC Education Lottery 250 which was a result of Jesse Love’s disqualification in post-race inspection during last year’s race. With that said, Smith showed really good speed throughout today’s practice along with teammates Carson Kvapil and Rajah Caruth. Without much surprise, Jesse Love and Corey Day were also very close on lap times as well. I don’t believe there were many “surprise” stories from practice but I would mention that Sheldon Creed and Brandon Jones were among popular names that struggled in practice.

Betting Targets

I waited until late Friday night to post tomorrow’s preview for NC Education Lottery 250 because I was waiting for odds to repost to lock-in a few bets. However, betting odds are absolutely atrocious with 6 different drivers listed at 6-1 or less and a total of 9 drivers listed at 10-1 odds or less. Last year’s winner Jesse Love is currently showing at +200, Corey Day is currently listed at +450 despite never winning in the series, and guys like Sheldon Creed and Carson Kvapil (1 combined win in both careers) are listed at +600. Needless to say, there is absolutely no value in futures (win) bets which makes tomorrow’s race nearly unplayable.

I don’t necessarily disagree with Love or Day being listed among the favorites, I just disagree with the numbers listed beside their names. As a result, I am forced to look at H2H targets for potential sharp value because we are not going to find any value in futures (win) formats. The drivers that I believe have the most sharp value in H2H formats include the likes of Sammy Smith and Carson Kvapil. I mentioned earlier that both drivers were really fast in practice. Smith is the defending winner of the NC Education Lottery 250 and checks off many of the handicapping boxes that we are looking for.

Likewise, Kvapil is in a similar boat after a pretty strong start to the season where he has shown top 5 speed on a near weekly basis. Deeper into the field, I would mention that William Sawalich (+4000) appears extremely undervalued based on the speed we have seen thus far this weekend. Sawalich is a good driver in fantasy, H2H, and potentially prop bet formats. Lastly, Jeb Burton is another driver that stands out specifically in fantasy formats. Burton is starting towards the rear of the field due to a bad qualifying effort but should easily move forward if he can avoid trouble.
