2026 Yellawood 500 Betting Race Picks

Date/Time: Sunday October 25th, 2026. 5:00PM (EST)
Where: Talladega Superspeedway
TV: NBC

Last week, Kyle Larson and the #5 team had a terrible performance that turned into a catastrophic DNF at Phoenix Raceway. Prior to Phoenix, Larson had a somewhat comfortable 49 point lead in the Chase. However, that points lead was trimmed down to a near 5 points and brought numerous competitors within striking range. To make things more intriguing, tomorrow’s Yellawood 500 at the high-banks of Talladega Superspeedway nearly guarantees to shake up the championship picture yet again in a big way. More importantly, the championship contenders will have a full field of competitors that feel they will have a chance to contend for victory!

While the championship contenders will be focused on survival and optimizing points, our focus shifts to trying to identify the drivers that could put themselves in position for a victory. In many ways, this may be the last race of the season for nearly ⅔ of the field to get a victory barring surprise circumstances at Martinsville and Homestead. As a result, we have a lot of drivers to consider for Sunday’s Yellawood 500 because technically anyone can win at Talladega. In effort to slim down our potential betting targets, we will look at several different handicapping angles which includes past performances at Talladega, performance at superspeedways, and more recent performances this season at the superspeedways in hopes to get a clearer picture of the drivers that are normally at the front of the field in the closing laps of these races. Afterwards we will look at updates betting odds to determine the drivers that make the most “betting sense” to target on Sunday!

Talladega – Trends and Notes

  • Brad Keselowski leads all active drivers with 6 career wins at Talladega.
  • Ryan Blaney (3), Joey Logano (3), Denny Hamlin (2), Ricky Stenhouse Jr (2), Chase Elliott (2), Chase Briscoe, Carson Hocevar, Tyler Reddick, Austin Cindric, Ross Chastain, and Bubba Wallace are all former winners at Talladega.
  • Joey Logano (85.8), Ryan Preece (84.5), Bubba Wallace (82.9), Todd Gilliland (82.5), and William Byron (82.5) have the highest average driver ratings over the last 5 races at Talladega.
  • Chase Elliott has finished Top 5 in 2 of the last 3 races at Talladega.
  • Carson Hocevar has finished 6th or better in the last 3 races at Talladega.
  • Ricky Stenhouse Jr has finished 6th or better in 3 of the last 5 races at Talladega.
  • Alex Bowman has finished 7th or better in 3 of the last 5 races at Talladega.
  • William Byron has finished 7th or better in 5 of the last 7 races at Talladega.
  • Bubba Wallace has finished 9th or better in 3 of the last 4 races at Talladega.
  • Noah Gragson has finished 9th or better in 3 of the last 5 races at Talladega.

  • Joey Logano has finished 16th or worse in the last 9 races at Talladega.
  • Chris Buescher has finished 17th or worse in 5 of the last 6 races at Talladega.
  • Michael McDowell has finished 17th or worse in 6 of the last 7 races at Talladega.
  • Ryan Blaney has finished 20th or worse in the last 5 races at Talladega.
  • There have been 6 cautions or less in the last 6 races at Talladega.
  • The eventual race winner has started 10th or worse in 9 of the last 11 races at Talladega.

Dynamic Averages

In effort to see how teams/drivers have performed this season at the superspeedways, we can utilize our dynamic averages which displays the last 5 races which were all from this season. The most surprising component surrounding our dynamic averages is the fact that no driver has been truly “outstanding” from a metrics perspective this season. Tyler Reddick has the highest driver rating with a 92.8 and Ryan Blaney (90.9) is the only other driver above to breach the 90 mark. While lower performance metrics are expected at superspeedways, we typically see a few drivers at +100. Therefore, these averages are trending well under the norm which shows just how level the playing field is at these venues. Another noteworthy callout surrounds the fact that drivers like Ross Chastain, Bubba Wallace, Chris Buescher, and Shane Van Gisbergen all rank inside the top 11 drivers.

Betting Targets

In the Next Gen Era, I have thought that Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano have been the best drivers at the superspeedways. However, both drivers have struggled significantly in recent races to simply make it across the finish line. While I cannot argue against either driver being considered among the outright betting favorites, I believe our dynamic averages paint a clear narrative that the field is extremely close in terms of performance at the superspeedways. As a result, I have made it a point to target betting value over betting preference and that is a strategy I have maintained throughout the weekend. So far, we have hit back to back winners with Sammy Smith at near 20-1 odds through both the Truck Series and O’Reilly Series races this weekend and that will be the type of value we are looking for again on Sunday in the Cup Series!

Judging by current betting odds, drivers like Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, and William Byron have produced performance metrics that are just as impressive as anyone in the field. However, all 3 of those drivers are receiving north of 15-1 odds which fits within our desired ROI. Tyler Reddick has the highest average driver rating of all drivers this season and won the first two superspeedway races this season at Daytona and Atlanta. Reddick is receiving better odds than anyone previously mentioned at 20-1 which also brings him into legitimate betting consideration. Ross Chastain, Alex Bowman, and Ricky Stenhouse Jr are among the drivers that are getting dark horse style odds that have legitimate winning upside. Meanwhile deeper into the field, Todd Gilliland, Shane Van Gisbergen, and Noah Gragson are the bottom drivers that I believe have prop bet appeal in low-risk/high-yield formats.
